C2C Cycle Fundraiser - Whitehaven to Sunderland

Huge congratulations to Stu Blundell and Chris Blake for completing the gruelling challenge of the Coast to Coast cycle ride on Sunday 15th March.

After the customary dipping of the rear wheels in the Irish Sea, the guys set off just after 7.30am from Whitehaven. The day was bright and dry as they began their marathon journey heading east towards Keswick and beyond. With temperatures around 2°C they were able to adjust the layers of their riding gear according to the conditions and with the assistance of their support vehicle, help and provisions were never too far away.

On route they passed through Penrith and the Eden Valley with its lush green countryside and sandstone villages. On they rode and began the demanding climb up to Hartside summit at 1903 feet then onwards across the snow covered Pennines. The C2C ride progresses through some beautiful undulating countryside as it twists and turns through old lead mining villages, such as Nenthead and Rookhope.

Leaving the Pennines behind them, they cycled down into the Durham Dales, the sun had long gone and the temperatures dipped as they entered the old steel town of Consett. From here it should have been an easier ride but night had fallen and slowed their progress. Eventually at 9.15pm they rolled in to Sunderland; tired and exhausted having been in the saddle for 13 hours.

They have raised a whopping £685 on their Just Giving page and a further £160 in cash donations - so would like to thank all these very kind people for their generosity.

Chris & Stu give special thanks to Chris & Ian Blundell for following in the support vehicle
